Long Island Warriors
The Long Island Warriors Hockey Program is a non-profit (pending), volunteer-run program that aims to provide a hockey team for military veterans, active military, reserves, and their family members on Long Island. The team was created to strengthen veteran community engagement and provide veteran camaraderie supporting a return to civilian life.
Vision
The program educates, trains, motivates and encourages individuals who have served in any branch of the Armed Forces as well those with physical or mental disabilities incurred during service to the United States, to participate in the sport of ice hockey in an environment that is adapted to the level of ability of the participating athlete. The program also assists veterans and their families to promote awareness of challenges our veterans face and to encourage team building.
The program uses the game of hockey to build camaraderie and a sense of community, as well as a connection to the community that supports them. In addition, it assists veterans in developing self-confidence and to assist in helping participants back into a lifestyle that will help the individual be more successful both within and outside a hockey environment.
